Welcome to The WRITE PATH

No matter what we do we are involved in the act of writing, or reading everyday. We need to know and understand what the street signs mean as we are driving, or recognize labels on the grocery shelves, interacting with emails and the Internet, or even jotting notes on post-its to remember to do some important task. Writing, for most of us, is the primary form of communication that we use when we cannot see someone face to face, and it is this same medium that God has chosen to communicate to us, through the pages of His Word.

Using the Bible as an example, we see that within it are many different forms of writing. There is narrative, as found in the gospels, poetry as found in the Psalms, expository letters as found in the New Testament, and lyrical prose that can be found in other places. Message scrolls were sent by the King to his soldiers and messages were sent back that way in response.

We live in an age that is driven by the exponential advances of technology. As new technologies are introduced and developed we begin to change our ways of doing things. Microwaves replaced conventional stoves, emails are sent instead of posted letters, and research is done over the Internet replacing the need for libraries. Through all of these technological advances, and the development of new innovations, much has been lost in the way that we now communicate with each other. While the new ways of communication have expedited conversation and discussions we have lost the ability to personally connect with each other.

THE WRITE PATH was founded to encourage those who engage in creative and responsive communication through writing. We celebrate the various genres, such as Bible studies, songwriting, story telling, fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and journalism. Our purpose as a group is not to critique one another but to encourage and motivate each other as we share what we have written. Reading out loud helps to establish the flow and the tone of the writing. Comments from others may help us as we revise and rewrite the pieces that we have shared. We hope that the casual atmosphere that we strive for promotes a comfortable setting so that members of the group are not intimidated by one another.

As we try to motivate one another we are aware that for many of us, the life of a writer can be somewhat isolated. Often we have to seclude ourselves from our families or friends in order to engage in our craft. Writing too can draw from us a deep level of emotions that others may not understand. A writer may feel frustrated, or even depressed if he or she cannot write on a regular and consistent basis.

It is for these reasons that THE WRITE PATH exists. We provide a sounding board, a place to share and express ourselves without the fear of judgment or reprisal. And more importantly this enables each other to realize and embrace the fact, that while some are called to sing, others are called to preach, and still others are called to teach, we know that we are called to write. Isn’t this appropriate when we know that, as written in the first chapter of John’s gospel that Jesus Christ the Living Word dwells within us? When our hearts are centered on Him, the author and the finisher of our faith, we overflow with the message that He wants us to share, and that is made evident in the things that we write.
